Utopia is Optimized Fun

Webster defines Utopia as follows:

Main Entry: uto•pia
Pronunciation: yu̇-ˈtō-pē-ə
Function: noun
Etymology: Utopia, imaginary and ideal country in Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, from Greek ou not, no + topos place
Date: 1597
1: an imaginary and indefinitely remote place
2often capitalized : a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions
3: an impractical scheme for social improvement

We at UtopianStates emphasize the second definition: A place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions. We believe that governments and social conditions can only be improved by first determining the ideal. It’s not important that we can’t totally reach the ideal. The important concept is that we use the ideal as a goal so that we can chart our course. Knowledge about what is real or perfect is the only way that any government, leader or politician can chart a viable course for his group.

Some people see perfection as having a billion dollars or winning the gold medal. This is an illusion. True that those would be perfect goals to achieve, but they go beyond perfection. With another reference to Webster:

Main Entry: per•fec•tion
Pronunciation: pər-ˈfek-shən
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English perfeccioun, from Anglo-French perfection, from Latin perfection-, perfectio, from perficere
Date: 13th century
1: the quality or state of being perfect: as a: freedom from fault or defect : flawlessness b: maturity c: the quality or state of being saintly
2 a: an exemplification of supreme excellence b: an unsurpassable degree of accuracy or excellence
3: the act or process of perfecting

We at UtopianStates emphasize definition one for defining Utopian perfection. A perfect society therefore is free from fault and defects; it is flawless and mature. The UtopianStates therefore constantly looks for faults and defects and strives to eliminate them. It isn’t sufficient to cause stress to some inhabitants in order to improve the situation for others. Causing one defect to eliminate another is not a viable solution. Nor is it sufficient to get the approval of the majority and the leaders. Any solution must be perfect for all the people.

The wealthy have the right to own property and earn money that is proportional to their risk, effort and skill. Others with lower effort and skill still have the right to food, shelter, clothing and a job without life threatening stress. Living frugally does not imply that a person has to be unhappy. Some of the happiest people are those that live frugally with limited resources.

Those obsessed with power, superiority and domination, apart from any role playing for mutual amusement, should not join the UtopianStates.

The UtopianStates strives to create a society where all can have equal fun living on this beautiful planet. The UtopianStates does NOT socialistically distribute the wealth. The UtopianStates endeavors to socialistically distribute the fun and enjoyment of life. Life should be a celebration. Life is wonderful.

Secession is Good

WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: “Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas.”

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Developing…

Secession is good in that it allows states to compete with each other. America needs intra-state competition to become strong enough to once again compete sucessfully in the world. I think every state should become independent of the federal government. It would probably be advantageous for the states to pay for a common airforce and navy.

Barry McGuire Lyrics appropriate Today

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it’s bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

This is not free trade, it is tariff free trade

This is not free trade, it is tariff free trade

Asian governments decided to adjust the air-fuel mixture of the worlds’ great economic machinery to produce more manufacturing jobs for themselves. As America lost jobs, we stimulated our economy to try to create jobs. Bush tweaked another knob trying to get things working again. Obama is tweaking yet another knob.

The first knob tweaked was reduction of tariffs, a.k.a. free trade.

The second knob tweaked was the rate of exchange of the Yuan to the dollar as Asian governments tried to stimulate Asian production by pegging the Yuan to the dollar.

The third knob tweaked was by the Asian governments that tried to keep the exchange rate low by buying American real property and T bills.

The forth knob tweaked was tax reductions and deficit spending by the American government as a stimulus to create jobs lost by free trade.

The fifth knob tweaked was the interest rate in an effort to stimulate the slowing economy.

The sixth knob tweaked was to stimulate the economy by making it possible for everyone to buy their own home.

The seventh knob tweaked was to stimulate bank lending by giving banks money to make loans so people can buy homes and companies can produce.

This financial Armageddon has seven broken seals.

From Australia, Free Trade Sucks

From down under:

“Everything we were force-fed about the benefits of free trade, by governments from Hawke and Keating on, was garbage,” he charged.

“All it has done is send the world—including China—bankrupt, so now each nation’s government must take the necessary measures to get their economies producing for their people’s needs.

“We must learn from history: in World War II John Curtin and Ben Chifley transformed our economy in a few years from a grazing/mining backwater into a modern manufacturing powerhouse.

“As Trade Minister from 1949-1970, the great Country Party leader John ‘Black Jack’ McEwen consolidated that transformation through comprehensive protectionist measures.

“Since then, the wankademic economists and political leaders babbled from the same script about ‘inefficient industries’ and ‘consumer costs’ to justify slashing tariffs, and look where it’s got us—an unpayable $1 trillion foreign debt, a household debt to annual income ratio of 175 per cent—one of the highest in the world, a dangerous vulnerability in our dependence upon China to buy our resources and manufacture our consumer goods (neither of which it is reliable for anymore), and an economic breakdown crisis worse than the 1930s Depression. “

Free Trade in a Nutshell

Letter published the The Wall Street Journal:

Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming’s article, “Protectionism Doesn’t Pay” (op-ed, Feb. 20), is concerned about the possible rise of protectionism in the current world recession. Well he might be concerned. China has enormous trade surpluses, especially with the U.S. If American trade gurus attended to American interests, those surpluses would disappear. The U.S. needs an across-the-board tariff sufficient to bring U.S. trade into balance.

The 1930 U.S. Smoot-Hawley tariff is a false analogy. The U.S. ran trade surpluses throughout the 1920s and ’30s. In comparison, the U.S. has not had a trade surplus since 1975. Its trade deficit is now about $700 billion per year. The cumulative deficit is over $7 trillion.

Mr. Chen’s real concern is to protect China’s enormous trade surplus with the U.S., $256 billion in 2007. China manages the value of the yuan at about 20% below its real value compared to the dollar. This is equivalent to a 20% subsidy on China’s exports, and a 20% tariff on its imports. Please, Mr. Chen, peddle your crocodile tears about protectionism and Smoot-Hawley elsewhere.

Where are Americans in this Economic crisis?

The Utopian States wouldn’t have this problem because the ‘feedback’ of the system automatically corrects economic problems rather than exacerbates them.

1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
You will probably react to learning of the loss with numbed disbelief. You may deny the reality of the loss at some level, in order to avoid the pain. Shock provides emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks.

2. PAIN & GUILT-
As the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain.

3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
Frustration gives way to anger, and you may lash out and lay unwarranted blame.

4. “DEPRESSION”, REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
During this time, you finally realize the true magnitude of your loss, and it depresses you.

5. THE UPWARD TURN-
Your physical symptoms lessen, and your “depression” begins to lift slightly.

6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
As you become more functional, your mind starts working again, and you will find yourself seeking realistic solutions to problems posed by life

7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
you learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation.

Judges take Millions in Kickbacks

courthouse_kickbacks

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For years, the juvenile court system in Wilkes-Barre operated like a conveyor belt: Youngsters were brought before judges without a lawyer, given hearings that lasted only a minute or two, and then sent off to juvenile prison for months for minor offenses.

The explanation, prosecutors say, was corruption on the bench.

In one of the most shocking cases of courtroom graft on record, two Pennsylvania judges have been charged with taking millions of dollars in kickbacks to send teenagers to two privately run youth detention centers.

“I’ve never encountered, and I don’t think that we will in our lifetimes, a case where literally thousands of kids’ lives were just tossed aside in order for a couple of judges to make some money,” said Marsha Levick, an attorney with the Philadelphia-based Juvenile Law Center, which is representing hundreds of youths sentenced in Wilkes-Barre.

Prosecutors say Luzerne County Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan took $2.6 million in payoffs to put juvenile offenders in lockups run by PA Child Care LLC and a sister company, Western PA Child Care LLC. The judges were charged on Jan. 26 and removed from the bench by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court shortly afterward..

Rules for a Great Economy

Rules for a great economy
1.) Have corporations that produce product that is needed and wanted.
2.) Have a government that protects the corporations and marketplace.
3.) Have corporations that are profitable.
4.) Have corporations that produce good jobs.
5.) Have investors that want to invest in those corporations.
6.) Provide an open market with exactly the right amount of competition.

A nation MUST have all six. If any of the six listed requirements is not met, the economy of that nation will fail.

The first one is obvious. In a free market the people must want the product or they will not buy the product.

The second requirement is not currently done with any optimality by the United States. As an example, if a jewelry story could not protect their products, the price would be zero and they would quickly go out of business. There are several other ways a product needs to be protected as well. Copyrights, trademarks and patents need protection. Tariffs offer protection as well. Tariffs of 45% protected the American market place during most of America’s history.

The third requirement that corporations be profitable is obvious. Without profitability, there wouldn’t be investors.

The fourth requirement that corporations produce good jobs is also obvious. Without good jobs, a nation would eventually have to be socialistic, allow their population to die, or cease to exist. A nation with a trade imbalance will be purchased property by property by the country with corporations that produce jobs.

The fifth requirement in a free society is that investors be able to own their own business. For investors to desire ownership, obviously the business must be profitable.

The sixth requirement is that the competition needs to exactly the right level for corporations to be both profitable AND produce good jobs. Too much competition and either the jobs or the corporation cease to exist. Economists and politicians have universally forgotten this, for some reason. In every endeavor competition has to be the right level to strengthen. Vaccinate a person with too strong a Polio virus and he will die. Vaccinate a person with too weak a Polio virus and he will die if he catches Polio. Give the person polio virus weakened properly and he will become stronger; just the right challenge to the immune system has made the person stronger. Just the right level of competition creates strength.

The moral of this story is that trade competition is only good when it makes a nation’s products, companies and jobs better. Government must create exactly the right conditions for corporations or that nation will cease to exist.

The American Dream (Pravda)

“It seems to me that the nature of the ultimate revolution with which we are now faced is precisely this: That we are in process of developing a whole series of techniques which will enable the controlling oligarchy who have always existed and presumably will always exist to get people to love their servitude.” ( Aldous Huxley in a 1962 speech at Berkeley)

By Gaither Stewart

(Rome) It’s undeniable that the American social model is a paradox in the world. All you have to do is look around at other nations and the difference is clear as the Rome sky in July. Even though today at the nadir of its profound social crisis because of its flagrant, outright failure, America continues unabashedly to hammer away at its people how fortunate they are, while simultaneously proposing itself to the world as the paradigm, the quintessence, the very epitome of western civilization. But is history not carrying America into a faded American Dream?

Ah, the American Dream! To the degree the model appears to the rest of the world as honeycombed and as full of holes as Swiss cheese, the more America’s ideological operation morphs into a contest between good (the US model) and evil (the rest).
